ACTIVITIES

Our Club offers a variety of fun and engaging activities in which members can participate.  Each activity committee is run by a member volunteer(s) and typically organizes monthly events, with many of the fitness groups hosting events weekly or bi-weekly.  Other activities are provided less often.

As a member if you would like to receive event communications for a specific activity be sure to update your Activity Group Interest in your Member Profile.  Additionally, if you would like more information about an activity committee, please contact the activity chair, which can be found using the Activity Committee Search page in the member portion of our website.


 FITNESS


Bicycle Club

The bicycle group alternates their bike rides between Ft. Clinch and the south end of the island from the Verandah restaurant parking lot 


Dance

Learn all dance styles. Weekly dance lessons for ladies only with classes both for beginners and those who know the basics. 

 
Fitness Walking

Members participate in a 2-4 mile walk at various locations on and near the island to promote fitness and friendship.    

       

Golf

Golfers meet at The Golf Club of North Hampton and play 9- or 18- holes (no membership is required) .  Reservations are required to play.  Guests are welcome.


Jazzercise

Feel amazing and look even better. JAZZERCISE! The original dance party workout blending dance with Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and strength training. The results? Long, lean muscles and an undeniable mood boost.


Kayaking

Members enjoy paddling on the beautiful waterways of Amelia Island and St. Mary’s, GA, on guided kayak trips.  No experience necessary – beginners are always welcome!


Pickleball Clinic

Pickleball is a fun racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.  Newcomers offers lessons for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced players. We also offer a Round Robin Clinic for Intermediate to Advanced players . These activities have a fee for the certified instructor.  All equipment is provided.

Pickleball League

Pickleball League involves weekly match play with other players at your level. League play is free and offered several times a year for multiple weeks. You must know how to play pickleball, keep score and have your own equipment.



 FOOD AND BEVERAGE

Welcome and Introduction to Newcomers

This activity is designed to allow prospective members and new members to meet current club members and learn more about the club.


Coffee and Conversation

Coffee and Conversation is a casual time to meet new friends and become reacquainted with old ones.  We meet at a different location each month. As you know, women are the best at conversation and sharing their experiences!


Dinner for Eight

Monthly dinner parties for 6-8 people are held at multiple homes on the same night.  This event is for singles or couples.  Dinner guests will be asked to either host, or provide a main or side dish, or bring dessert and a bottle of wine.


Gourmet

This group participates in a monthly event which may involve food sampling and recipes, preparation and lectures by local food merchants, wine tastings, etc.


Mix and Mingle

These monthly event gatherings are at members’ homes.  Everyone brings their drink of choice and an appetizer.  Spouses/partners are welcome.  Quarterly a ladies only event is also offered.


Second Sunday Brunch

This group enjoys a leisurely brunch together once a month at various local restaurants.


 TRIPS AND OUTINGS


Gadabouts

This group meets once or twice a month to explore the local area.


Travel Near and Far

Overnight trips and adventures that take us over the seas, land, or to different places that might be on your bucket list.


 GAMES


Bunko

Bunko is an easy dice game of chance that fosters relationships, as you are always changing partners.


Canasta

Canasta is a card game for two to six people.  New players and all levels are welcome.  You do not need to know how to play – we will teach you.


Euchre  

Euchre is a fun card game that is played with a partner.  Euchre clinics will be offered.  Spouses/partners are welcome.


Pennies
Also known as Pennies for Heaven.  Pennies is a card game within the Canasta family.  Each player is dealt a hand of cards, called pennies, which can be picked up only when the player has completed a canasta.
 

Mah Jongg

You must have an American Mahjongg card to play.  Lessons are given once a year.


Duck Pin Bowling

Duckpin Bowling is like bowling, only miniature. The balls are smaller with no finger holes and the pins are shorter and lighter. Getting a strike is more difficult so bowlers are given 3 attempts each turn. Other than that, it’s very similar to “traditional” 10 pin bowling. 


 THEATRE AND MOVIES

Reel Junkies
This group selects an afternoon movie to enjoy together, then dinner for social time and conversation about the movie.
 
Theater
Members interested in theatre attend monthly live theater or movie events.  Selections are made from local and surrounding area theatres.
 

 OTHER INTERESTS

Arts and Crafts

Various crafting classes to learn new crafts.  From card making to pouring resin to create wall art, monthly offerings are interesting and fun!


Art Walks & Talks

Unique opportunities to explore the visual arts in a range of settings, including museums, galleries, public spaces, virtual tours and beyond. View art and have conversations with not only tour guides and experts in the field, but often the artists themselves, to learn more about the "back story" behind the artists and their work through the ages.


Book Review

A pre-selected book is discussed in detail.


Classical Music

This activity is for anyone interested in increasing their knowledge of classical music. We watch a lecture and listen to a full performance of the piece studied in the lecture, then discuss it.


Financial Education

Members engage in educational presentations and discussions on various financial topics of interest at this monthly gathering.


Gals with 4-footed Pals

Bring your dog! This group gets together once a month to meet and mingle with fellow dog-loving members and their dogs. Activities can include sniff and strolls in various places such as the beach or downtown, meeting at a local dog-friendly place for your favorite beverage, and more. Ideas are welcome.


Garden Lovers

This group addresses different aspects of gardening on the First Coast.


Read and Share

Participants meet at Story and Song (1430 Park Ave.) to discuss books they have read.  Just enough information about a book is revealed to help determine if you would be interested in reading it.


Shutterbugs

Whether you are an avid photographer or just love snapping pictures on your cell phone, this group has something for you.  Activities vary each month and include instructions, photo share, photo walks and more!


Stitchers

We embrace stitchers of all levels of expertise and we explore knitting, crochet, cross stitch, needlepoint, sewing, quilting and more.  Demonstrations and sharing are encouraged.


 SERVICE

Community Service

Community Service is the fund raising arm of the Club, donating to local charities throughout the year.  It raises money through 50/50 raffles and special events.  It also supports Bingo for ARC bi-monthly
